As you may have heard from many of your friends and family, thrift stores seem to be the new hot place to shop. People these days all over are boasting that they're finding brand new expensive
clothes, CDs, watches, and even shoes. Whether you believe these claims or not, how likely is it that you'll actually find something rare and unique the next time you venture into one of these
stores. Let's find out for ourselves.
Donations from Everywhere
The biggest thrift stores in the world like Salvation Army rely heavily on donations and actually don't pay a single dime for anything that they sell. Although donations may make some people go run away and cry in a corner, you can actually find plenty of amazing things that you would never think of finding. Odd items will still pop up on occasion though. Items, for the most part, are donated to these large stores because people are looking to get rid of things in their house or they're simply doing it for the tax benefits. At most of these stores, people will donate everything from old records to children's toys. There is no need to worry about whether or not these items are safe. Before actually setting them out into the main part of the store, these places have dedicated teams that go through each item to determine that it is safe for sale and that there are no hidden surprises.
Hidden Treasure Everywhere
The amazing thing about these stores is that there is no limit in terms of what you can actually find. Go down the street to your local shop and it is almost guaranteed that you'll find something unique. As stated earlier, people donate some of the strangest things that you would never think of ever finding. In fact, just recently someone actually found a real Pablo Picasso painting at a store in Columbus, Ohio that they picked up for $14.14. The painting ended up being worth over $6,000. Think of going into these stores like you're going on a magical treasure hunt. You never know what you're going to find but you'll almost always find something new and unique. It doesn't even have to be something that is worth money. Wouldn't it be neat to find an old camera from the 1800's that could still be used today? It may only be worth $5 to collectors but it's a surviving piece of history. That is what makes it so cool.
In order to find all of these awesome items that you hear about all the time, you should follow some of these simple and effective tips. First off, you need to get used to hearing the word "used." Used items are never a bad thing and are more often than not some of the coolest things that you will actually find. Don't listen to the mall shoppers who only buy new things and tell you that you're simply wasting your time. They're just bitter from never finding anything cool! The next tip to keep in mind is to always be patient. Finding that rare and cool item takes time and most of the time, it isn't going to jump out at you. You may need to do some digging around first. Lastly, you should be visiting stores that are outside of your city. Typically, stores in smaller towns will generally have better items.
As you can see, there is no limit in terms of what you can possibly discover at these thrift stores. Be sure to have patience and don't be afraid of anything used. By visiting one of these stores instead of the mall, you may discover that hidden treasure that you've always been looking for!
